We’re currently hiring for the following positions:

Senior Web Developer

Hotelicopter needs a senior developer for our web development team.

We are looking for a veteran software developer with strong Ruby on Rails (and/or PHP) skills to work on our growing website, APIs, and metasearch infrastructure, which we’ve built using CSS, Javascript, PHP, RoR, MySQL, EC2/S3/Cloudfront, and a custom search engine built in Ruby.

You’ll be reporting to the CTO in a modified Agile shop, and you will be in daily collaboration with the CTO, CMO, and other members of our close-knit development team.

What you will be doing:

  • Feature Development: Pump out features that users want to see! We keep a top 10 list of most requested features, biggest bugs, and all sorts of other tasks that get added to our to-do lists. If you want to have your work used by lots of people all over the world, hotelicopter is the place to be.

  • Scaling and Optimizing: Always a constant challenge. Help us efficiently handle our ever-growing traffic! Have creative ideas or experience on how to build a robust, highly-tuned server infrastructure to serve millions of users a month? Help us architect and maintain a reliable back-end system to support a dynamic web front-end.

  • Technical Innovation: Interested in creating systems that are cutting edge and new? Want to think up new ways to connect people with people and things and places? We strive to push the envelope and sometimes we get some crazy ideas in our heads… coming up with a clever way to get those ideas into code is a lot of fun.

  • Exploring: hotelicopter is not wed to any particular technology. We’re totally open to exploring new ideas, new technologies, and anything else the tech world has to offer. Developers are encouraged to poke around and see what’s new and exciting.

Ideally, you have:

  • A solid grasp of the big picture
  • Phenomenal testing principles (and perseverance)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to fulfill multiple roles
  • 3+ years RoR software development experience on Linux/Unix
  • 5+ years PHP software development experience on Linux/Unix
  • 5+ years MySQL/Postgres/Oracle
  • Strong XHTML/CSS/Javascript proficiency
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • Mad skillz on wii MarioCart, bonus points for owning Rainbow Road
  • Skills leading feature design sessions and working with business stakeholders
  • Experience with service oriented architectures & REST
  • Demonstrated interest/experience in high performance, scalable systems
  • xkcd in your daily-read list
  • Enthusiasm, team-contributor mindset and obsessive attention to detail
