Hotels for 18-year-olds in Baltimore

By Alexander Backus · Updated September 2026

If nobody on your Baltimore trip is 21 yet, the hotel search can feel like a dead end. An 18-year-old booking a room at these hotels doesn't need to bring an older guest along for check-in.

Homewood is the campus for undergraduate admissions

For a Johns Hopkins University admissions visit, your destination is Mason Hall at 3101 Wyman Park Drive. It's on the Homewood campus in North Baltimore, so use that address when weighing the location of an 18+ hotel for the visit.

Johns Hopkins Hospital is on a different campus in East Baltimore, five miles from Homewood. For an undergraduate tour, the useful comparison is each hotel's location relative to Mason Hall, rather than its distance from the hospital.

Baltimore room costs include a 9.5% city tax

A nightly price before taxes can understate how much of your budget the room will take. For an ordinary short hotel stay inside Baltimore City, the tax and assessment components include:

  • Maryland sales tax of 6% on taxable accommodation.
  • Baltimore City hotel tax of 9.5% on the taxable room amount.
  • A possible 2% Baltimore Tourism Assessment, which the hotel can choose to pass on to guests.

That tourism assessment isn't automatically a charge you owe at every hotel. If a hotel passes it on, the amount must be disclosed in advance and shown separately, with the assessment named on your receipt. Compare the full room quote, including taxes and any other disclosed fees, before deciding what you can afford. If the quote already includes a charge, there's no need to add it again.
