Downtown rides within UTA's Free Fare Zone

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) charges no fare on TRAX light rail or fixed-route buses when you board and get off inside its downtown Free Fare Zone. Arena, Temple Square and Courthouse are among the TRAX stops inside it. When comparing hotel costs, count the journeys that stay within this boundary as free.

The airport station sits outside the zone, so a train ride into downtown still needs a paid fare. The same applies whenever you board or get off outside the boundary, even if the other end of the trip is downtown. Keep those fares in your stay budget. For a free ride on a bus, tell the driver you're staying within the zone. If you use an electronic fare card, tap on and off; missing the tap off means you'll be charged.
