NYC residential rentals under 30 days require the host to stay
If you want a place to yourselves for a weekend, an ordinary apartment rental isn't an interchangeable substitute for a hotel. For a residential stay under 30 days, you share the unit with the person who lives there and must have access to the full unit.
Hotels and other buildings approved by the city for temporary lodging fall into a different category, where entire-unit short stays are permitted. An apartment-style listing isn't automatically unlawful; the building's approved use matters.
Hosted residential rentals also have a two-guest limit, excluding children under 4. Three adult friends can't use one such rental for their stay, even if they're happy to share with the host. If privacy or party size rules out that arrangement, keep an 18+ hotel or another lawful lodging option in your search.
The 42nd Street Shuttle isn't an overnight connection
New York's subway operates 24 hours a day, but that doesn't mean every train runs all night. During normal late-night service, approximately 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., the 42nd Street Shuttle doesn't run. The alternative is the 7 train, which serves Times Square-42nd Street and Grand Central-42nd Street.
Getting back to your hotel after an evening out may require a different train from the one you'd use during the day. Before booking, compare the journey you'll make at night instead of relying on the shuttle connection shown on a daytime map. Planned work can alter normal service, so check the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) service status for your trip.
