The Red River of the North forms North Dakota's eastern border with Minnesota, and Fargo, the largest city in the state, sits right on that river. North Dakota State University is in Fargo too, so for a campus visit the room you want is in Fargo.
Bismarck, the state capital, is about 190 road miles west of Fargo. If your trip is about the state Capitol, the Heritage Center, or the State Library, those all sit on one Bismarck campus, the Capitol Complex on East Boulevard Avenue, and Bismarck is the city to book.
