The Boardwalk at University City brings together lakefront lodging, restaurants and shops in this Charlotte district. If you want meals out and time by the water to be part of the stay, that is a reason to consider a room around the Boardwalk.

University Research Park also has trails and greenways for walking, running and cycling. Those paths give University City another outdoor setting to weigh alongside the lakefront. The district's hotels are spread across University City, so look at a prospective room's location in relation to the places you plan to visit.

For New Student Orientation at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), check-in starts at 8 a.m. and the day finishes around 5 p.m. First-year and transfer students must attend the full session, so leave that day clear when planning your travel.

The program provides neither early-arrival housing nor overnight accommodation. If reaching campus by 8 a.m. means arriving the night before, book that night's room separately. The same applies if you want to stay after the session instead of traveling home that evening. Your reserved orientation date and travel plans determine which hotel nights you need.

If you live outside Mecklenburg County and are coming to Charlotte for medical care or to support a patient, ask the treating team about Hospitality House of Charlotte. This medical lodging program requires a referral from medical staff at the facility providing treatment, and the program must confirm your eligibility. Patients staying there need a caregiver with them on site at all times. Guests aged 18 or older must show government-issued photo ID and may be asked to consent to a background check.

Once the referral details are confirmed, you go on a waitlist for your requested arrival date. The program calls before noon that day about availability. You are offered a room only if one is available and you meet its check-in requirements, so keep a hotel fallback until you have an actual room offer.

If no room is available, Hospitality House offers alternative lodging options and moves the referral to the next day's waitlist when applicable. Discuss those options with the program; the waitlist does not promise you a room the following night.

A standard room costs $75 plus tax per night, or $90 plus tax for a suite, subject to availability. Payment is due before each night's stay. Financial assistance may be available, but it isn't guaranteed. The stay can continue while the patient is actively receiving treatment, with checkout expected when the patient is discharged. If you plan to remain in Charlotte after that, you will need another accommodation arrangement for those nights.
